LF550 GLASS LOUVRE SYSTEM

LF550 large-format frameless glass louvres for transparent facades.

LF550 uses substantial single-glazed glass blades with no horizontal aluminium blade frame across the external face, creating long uninterrupted glass lines and a clean architectural expression.

Each blade is supported at its ends through discreet stainless-steel patch fittings and an end-pivoting operating arrangement. EBSA coordinates the louvre geometry, glass, facade interfaces, automation and controls around the project from early selection through installation and commissioning.

Large glass blades. Minimal visible hardware. Commercial facade engineering.

LARGE FORMAT

Substantial single-glazed blades create a strong architectural rhythm with reduced visual subdivision

FRAMELESS EXTERNAL EXPRESSION

No horizontal aluminium blade frame across the external face, allowing the glass to dominate the elevation

END-PIVOT ARCHITECTURE

Blade support, pivot and movement are resolved at the blade ends and coordinated through the vertical framing zone

ENGINEERED INTERNAL ACCESS

Snap-out framing on the inside face provides designed access to concealed operating components while preserving the external glass expression

SYSTEM SELECTION

Choose LF550 when large blade scale and a frameless single-glazed expression lead the facade brief.

LF550 occupies a distinct position in the EBSA glass louvre range. It combines substantial glass blade scale with an end-supported, end-pivoting architecture and a clean external face free of horizontal aluminium blade frames.

LARGE-FORMAT FRAMELESS ARCHITECTURE

Support the glass at its ends and let the facade read as glass.

LF550 avoids horizontal aluminium blade frames across the external face. Large single-glazed blades are carried at their ends through stainless-steel patch fittings, with blade support, pivot hardware and the operating system coordinated through the vertical framing or mullion zone.

BUILDING STRUCTURE

FRAMELESS BLADE EXPRESSION

The glass remains the dominant external element. Avoiding horizontal aluminium blade frames preserves long uninterrupted sightlines and gives the louvre a distinctly architectural character.

END-SUPPORTED, END-PIVOTING OPERATION

Each blade is supported and rotates at its ends, concentrating support, pivot and movement within the vertical framing zone rather than across the visible face of the blade.

VERTICAL FRAME + MULLION LOAD PATH

Blade loads transfer through the end supports and pivot hardware into the vertical LF550 frame or intermediate mullion, then through the perimeter fixing into the surrounding facade and building structure.

CONCEALED OPERATING COMPONENTS

The operating arrangement is integrated around the vertical framing zone so the primary external sightline remains glass rather than exposed louvre hardware.

INTERNAL SNAP-OUT ACCESS

Snap-out framing on the inside face provides designed access to internal operating components for inspection, adjustment and future service without disturbing the external architectural expression.

The defining LF550 idea is the complete assembly: large glass blade, discreet end supports, vertical load path, concealed operation and designed-in internal access working as one facade system.

DESIGN INPUTS

Coordinate the glass, blade proportion and surrounding facade early.

Large-format single-glazed louvres bring several facade decisions together. Overall louvre size, blade span, blade height, glass makeup, intermediate support, perimeter framing and operating geometry all influence how the completed LF550 assembly performs and how it integrates visually with the building.

SINGLE-GLAZED SYSTEM

LF550 is the major single-glazed large-format pathway in the EBSA range. Project glass makeup is coordinated with the structural, safety, visual and coating requirements of the facade.

BLADE SCALE + PROPORTION

Large blades reduce visual subdivision and create a strong architectural rhythm, with glass weight, support and operating forces resolved as part of the system design.

OVERALL LOUVRE GEOMETRY

Width, height and aspect ratio matter. Tall and wide louvre fields can place different demands on the same system architecture and should be considered with the supporting facade from the outset.

INTERMEDIATE SUPPORT

Wider louvre fields can incorporate intermediate structural or mullion support where required, allowing the overall facade zone to be developed without losing the intended architectural rhythm.

PERIMETER INTERFACE

Coordinate the LF550 frame with curtain wall, structural steel, masonry or other surrounding construction, together with waterproofing, drainage, fixings, tolerances and adjacent facade components.

Geometry is a core part of the engineering evidence and product selection.

DESIGNED FOR THE BUILDING LIFECYCLE

Keep the architectural face clean while retaining access from inside.

LF550 integrates the operating system within the framing zone rather than placing conventional louvre hardware across the visible face. This protects the architectural expression and gives the project team a cleaner way to coordinate operation, access and long-term ownership.

INSIDE FACE

SNAP-OUT ACCESS → CONCEALED OPERATING ZONE

CLEAN EXTERNAL FACE

The external facade reads primarily as glass, with the blade support and operating system kept visually subordinate to the architecture.

PROTECTED OPERATING ZONE

Operating components are coordinated within the framing zone rather than exposed as a collection of visible moving parts across the louvre face.

DESIGNED-IN INTERNAL ACCESS

Snap-out framing on the inside face provides direct access to internal components when required, allowing the access strategy to be resolved as part of the product architecture rather than added after installation.

Access is built into the louvre architecture without compromising the external glass expression.

FULL-SIZE PERFORMANCE

Current full-size testing supports LF550 at commercial facade scale.

EBSA’s current LF550 test programme was carried out by ift Rosenheim in Germany for Australian requirements, using AS/NZS 4420.1:2016 and the performance requirements of AS 2047:2014+A2:2017.

The current evidence includes tall and wide full-size LF550 assemblies, providing architects and facade engineers with direct performance data across two important large-format geometry territories.

Full-size LF550 tall configuration.

TESTED SIZE — WIDE

2800 × 2800 mm

Full-size LF550 wide configuration.

WATER RESISTANCE

No water penetration at test pressures up to 1500 Pa across the current Australian programme used for this page.

AIR INFILTRATION

0.04–0.06 L/s·m² at ±75 Pa across the current Australian configurations used for this page.

SERVICEABILITY

The current programme gives LF550 a strong Australian-standard evidence base for large-format single-glazed operable facade applications.

PROJECT APPLICATION

Use the tested performance as a strong foundation for project design.

LF550 is a repeating facade system. EBSA uses the current test programme together with project geometry, glass makeup, blade span, design pressure and support strategy to develop the final louvre arrangement.

Large louvre fields can be developed from repeating LF550 elements, with intermediate mullions or structural support used where required to create wider facade zones while maintaining the intended transparency and architectural rhythm.
